Sensory Disabilities and College Classroom Experience In-Person

What does it take to provide a great experience for individuals who have sensory disabilities? This training will address the unique needs of students who are deaf, deafblind, hard of hearing, blind or low vision. There will be an introduction to sensory disabilities, a discussion about accommodations and some suggestions for technology that may assist you while you’re working with this population. Additionally, a look at training in use of adaptive techniques and equipment for individuals with vision loss. This training will be hosted by the Tennessee Department of Human Services, Division of Rehabilitation Services.

Training will be held on Monday, June 3 from 9am-3pm in-person only. The training will take place in the College Center Building; Instructional Design Training Suite; CCEN 243 on the Morristown Campus.

Only faculty who have taught Fall 2023, Spring 2024, or are currently teaching may receive pay for this training.  Faculty members who have completed this training before must receive permission to be compensated for it from the Executive Director of IDEAS: Candace Justice (candace.justice@ws.edu).  Faculty members who attend and complete an assessment of the training will receive extra compensation of $75 (pre-tax) paid according to payroll's established deadlines.
